TMR #3 - You are not a genius
Hate to break it to you, but you’re not a genius—at least in the way it was meant back in the ancient Roman days. 👀
Unlike its current meaning of intellectual brilliance, a “Genius” was believed to be a spirit or a divine entity that provided guidance and creativity to an individual. This Genius would be with a person from birth until death and was thought to be the source of all of their inspiration and great ideas.
Anytime someone had a “genius” idea, it was not a reflection of their own abilities or intelligence, but rather a gift from an external entity, their Genius.
Whether you believe in having your own personal Genius or not is irrelevant, but when I heard about this I immediately realized how important it is to just show up and work consistently.
Control what you can control
You see, as an entrepreneur, songwriter, designer, content creator, or anything else, your job is just to show up.
To put in the hours. 🕞
To work day in and day out trying to perfect your craft.
As much as we would like to think that we have control over our creativity and inspiration, the truth is that we cannot force it to come.
Some days you’ll just sit there banging your head against the desk. And other days you can produce 10x the output in minutes.
You don’t know when it will happen—you just have to be ready when it does. And, the only way to be ready is to consistently show up and put in the work.
Not every piece of content or art you create is going to be great. Anyone who has created anything for any real amount of time will tell you that the overwhelming majority of their output is just "meh."
You are not a Genius. You cannot rely on your own abilities to always create the perfect product, idea, song, or piece of content.
But what you should be able to rely on, is showing up.
If you fail to show up consistently and perfect your craft, you are not going to be ready to strike when there’s gold. When the Genius is ready to inspire you.
Just show up this week
This week, focus on being consistent and putting in the work no matter what.
If it works, it works—keep going.
If it doesn’t, it doesn’t—keep going.
Show up, work hard, and be ready to execute that genius idea when it comes.
Share this with a genius you know 💯
