Every Monday, we drop a new episode. We talk to business owners, leaders, and entrepreneurs who want to make a big impact. No matter how off-track your last week was, we're here to get you reset and ready to crush it.
Now, let's talk about decisions.
Doesn't matter what business you're in. Old or new. Finance, tech, healthcare. Whatever. Every leader faces the same thing daily: decisions.
If you can't make decisions, or can't make them fast, you're in trouble. Your competitors will beat you into the ground.
Let me share something personal here. When I first started my agency, I was paralyzed by decisions. Should I niche down or offer everything? Should I hire or stay solo? Every choice felt massive.
I'd spend days, sometimes weeks, mulling over decisions that my gut could've made in minutes.
And you know what?
That indecision cost me. I missed out on clients because I couldn't decide on pricing fast enough. I lost great talent because I hesitated too long on making an offer.
But here's what changed everything for me: I started categorizing decisions. And I learned this from studying Jeff Bezos. He talks about two types:
Temporary: Easy to reverse or short-term.
Permanent: Hard to undo. Big deal.
For temporary decisions, I now gather info fast and decide. Get it done. Like choosing a project management tool or setting a meeting time with a client. I used to agonize over these. Now? Quick decision, move on.
For permanent ones, I take more time. But I still set a deadline.
Hiring a key team member or pivoting our service offering? Yeah, that needs thought.
But not endless thought.
This approach revolutionized my business. We moved faster. We adapted quicker. And surprisingly, our success rate on decisions improved.
Why?
Because we were making more decisions, learning from each one, and getting better at the process itself.
Not deciding kills your progress. I've seen it in my own journey and in the businesses I coach.
Why do people struggle with decisions? Fear.
They're scared of being wrong. But here's the thing:
If you make a decision based on what you know now, it's a good decision. Even if it turns out bad later, you couldn't have known. That's not a bad decision. That's a good decision with a bad outcome.
You know what is a bad decision? Making no decision at all.
So here's your challenge this week:
Make temporary decisions faster. You'll find most decisions are temporary.
Make permanent decisions with care, but set a deadline.
Do this, and you'll be a more effective leader, entrepreneur, agency owner, parent, mentor - whatever your role is.
I promise you, this one shift can transform your business and your life. It did for me.
Get out there and have a great week. See you next Monday.
