Issue #1 - Focus is everything
This is where it begins.
I’ve already written, rewritten, and replaced much of what I originally wrote for the first issue. But at the end of the day, this is the first of many and all my thoughts will come out sooner or later. So I’m just hitting send.
Through my 23 years of digital entrepreneurship, I’ve made every mistake in the book (except for the mistake of quitting), and sometimes more than once. Even in the past two years, I’ve been able to level up tremendously through constant learning. But my persistence has kept me in the game.
A broken clock is right twice a day, right? Persistence and sheer force of constant (albeit small) momentum are going to eventually lead to what you may define as “success,” but why enjoy success in 40 years when you can enjoy it in 5 years?
Through each failure, each iteration that felt like the same thing again and again, I’ve always come back to the drawing board wondering what I could have done differently. Ultimately, I've now determined that there is a key element that will either slow down tremendously or speed up tremendously your rate of success.
And if you haven’t figured it out by now, that “key element” is focus.
Focus is limited
Everyone possesses a finite amount of energy that they are able to use to move things forward. The things in your life that grab your attention, willfully or not, all take a piece of that energy and move forward. The good things, and the bad things.
Having a wide focus doesn’t mean you cease to make progress. In fact, it’s the opposite—you make progress in everything you put your focus and attention to.
But at what cost? Speed.
You will eventually hit your level of success, but your lack of focus will cause you to hit it late in life.
I’m all for playing the long game, but only when it’s out of my control. I’ll invest in a house and wait 20 years because my focus only contributes to a small portion of that success.
But in business, in business decisions, in family, in friendships, my focus has a direct impact on not only the success but the speed of achieving that success.
Use Monday to start strong
I started “The Monday Reset” for me. To get my thoughts focused. To start my week, focused. And my vision is to help a multitude of others achieve their successes much faster than I have learning from the mistakes I made sooner.
Life will get in the way!
But, no matter what happened last week, this is a NEW WEEK. Use Monday to reset and start the new week laser-focused on what is important.
What now?
Action is another huge key to success, but more on that later. Here are some action steps you can take right now:
Write down one thing that you want to accomplish this week. Doesn’t matter what it is, but write it down and put it somewhere where you will see it at least 10 times per day.
Share this newsletter with 5 people you know who are looking to get the most out of their business. Be accountable and surround yourself with people who will push you. Forward the email or share it on social.
Comment or leave feedback. I would love to hear from you and your insights. I do not have everything figured out and I want to continue learning from the perspectives of others.
Until next week!
