How to Create a Bigger Impact [TMR #042]
Have you ever had one of those conversations that you go into, without any expectation or agenda, but something gets said that just stick with you forever?
Let me share one.
I got introduced to this man by a friend, let's call him Jim.
Jim is an older gentleman and while I knew he was successful, I didn't know to what extent.
Turns out, he's worth over nine figures--and you'd never know it.
We got introduced through a friend, and honestly, I didn’t expect much from our meeting.
I was just looking forward to a good chat over lunch.
The Meeting
Like most conversations with me, it went down the path of talking business, entrepreneurship, and ideas.
He asked about some things I was working on, so I said, "You know I’m a veteran, right?"
I told him about these ideas I had to give back to other veterans through my business.
I had this vision—helping vets start their entrepreneurial journeys after leaving the military.
I was so pumped about it, talking a mile a minute, laying out all these plans I had in my head.
And the whole time, he just listened.
Really listened.
Not just “nodding along”, but the “I’m taking this in and thinking it through” kind of listening.
Jim's Advice
Then we started talking about my business—how things were going, revenue, you know, the usual stuff.
That’s when He looked at me and asked, “Why would you focus on that right now?”
And I was like, “What do you mean?”
Then he explained, “Why help a few veterans now when you could help so many more later?”
He wasn’t saying my ideas were bad; he just thought the timing was off.
His advice? “Get as rich as possible, as fast as possible.”
Not because money is everything, but because the more resources you have, the bigger the impact you can make later.
The Importance of Focus
I’m telling you this because it’s so easy to get caught up in good intentions.
You want to help, make a difference, do something meaningful.
But here’s what I learned—right now, the focus should be on growing your business.
Like, really laser-focused.
The bigger your business gets, the more people you can help down the line.
Think about it—helping one or two veterans now is great, but imagine helping 10,000 in a few years.
That’s a whole different ballgame!
Your Challenge this Week
So here’s what I want you to take away this week: Focus is everything.
Stay on the course, keep pushing, and grow your business.
Those big, heart-driven ideas? Put them on hold for now.
Because when the time comes, you’ll be able to do it on a much bigger scale.
For this Monday Reset, let’s keep our heads down and our eyes on the prize.
Stay focused.
Get rich.
And remember, the real impact is just around the corner.
See you next week!
