π Are you "all substance and no flash?" [TMR #047]
"Wes, you're all substance and no flash."
That's what someone told me during a recent zoom call with agency owners. His point? I have a wealth of knowledge, but nobody shows up because I don't dance around on TikTok.
And you know what? He's right.
I've always focused on creating value rather than creating a spectacle. I work hard and try to help whoever crosses my path. But is this the right approach?
I donβt think it is.
If you (or I) have something that can help others, keeping it under wraps doesn't do anyone any good. However, "putting yourself out there" doesn't have to be extreme either.
There's a balance to strike, and I believe more good people showcasing themselves publicly would benefit us all.
In today's world, personal brands are huge. The people behind the companies play a crucial role, and ignoring this only hurts your business. As a business owner, you need to be at the forefront of your company, both internally and externally.
To truly make an impact, you need to get as many people to know you, every day, as possible. This opens up more opportunities than you can imagine. I've experienced this firsthand:
A chance encounter led to a $200k deal for my company.
A silent participant in a training call later (6 months later!) credited my advice for adding $500k in new revenue to his business. I had no idea!
You can add value indirectly, but you have to put yourself out there and risk criticism. There's no reward without risk.
I've tended to hide away and work, creating value in small portions. But after this wake-up call about my lack of "flash," I'm prioritizing more public appearances - speaking, teaching, and hosting.
I challenge you to do the same:
Get in front of more people daily.
Let others know the real you.
Set yourself up for failure, then succeed.
Your audience will thank you. Your business will grow. As for you, You'll discover opportunities you never knew existed.
It's time to step into the spotlight.
