Achieving more starts with blaming less. - TMR #15
Make 2024 THE YEAR for your agency. Plus, some bonus content at the end 👀
I received an email from a subscriber three weeks ago talking about how his business was failing because he was “not in a great niche.” I jumped on a 1:1 with him to explore a little deeper and turns out, the industry he’s in is AMAZING (totally untapped imo) but he was offering something that the industry just didn’t need at all…
We revised his offer right there on the call and he has since closed FOUR clients that previously shrugged him off!
This leads me to write this week’s TMR because, ultimately, YOU are in control of the direction your business takes. One simple mindset shift DAILY makes all the difference.
Read on to have your mind blown. Some bonus content at the end 👀
It’s your fault…
How is it that when things are great, we think we’re the greatest business owner on this earth? But when things are bad, it’s because of someone or something else?
As agency owners, it's so easy to fall into the trap of blaming outside factors when business is slow or things aren't going our way. 👉❗
We blame the market, competitors, the economy, clients - you name it. But the truth is, as long as we continue pointing fingers elsewhere, we are giving away our power and limiting what's possible.
It’s a natural habit — but like most natural habits, it’s a BAD HABIT.
Taking ownership means taking control
A good friend and mentor of mine has a saying - "The first two words of getting out of poverty are 'my fault.'"
Now, I'm not saying any of you are in poverty, but the principle still applies whether times are good or bad. No matter the circumstance, your problem is ultimately your problem to solve. And that responsibility is what sets self-made entrepreneurs apart from the rest.
Rather than wasting time and energy searching for someone or something to blame, I challenge you all this week to shift your mindset and start viewing challenges as entirely within your control to overcome through action.
Then saying to yourself, “This is my responsibility. What specific steps can I personally take, starting today, to drive the agency forward?”
Maybe it's time to revise your offer, helping your clients in a new, better way than what you did last year.
Maybe your onboarding and client success process needs an overhaul to increase retention and referrals.
Or perhaps it's finally investing in paid ads to open up new channels of reaching prospects at scale. The key is focusing inward on what high-impact actions you can take, rather than fixating outward on perceived external "problems."
With that shift comes a reduction in debilitating fear and uncertainty holding you back. When you take personal responsibility and ownership of your results through consistent, focused effort, the possibility of "failure" shrinks dramatically.
You no longer have to guess whether things will work out. They will work out, over time, because you’ve made the shift to bettering yourself when you hit a bump in the road rather than blaming something you cannot control.
Your challenge this week
This week, I challenge you to confront any decisions you've been putting off and make a list of tangible steps to attack this coming quarter with urgency and accountability.
Schedule time on your calendars for check-ins to track progress and problem-solve as a team.
Remember - when you're moving forward one foot in front of the other, anxiety melts away and gets replaced with empowerment.
Beyond that, spend time this week really listening to your clients and prospects. What problems are top of mind for them? How can you better address those deeply through revolutionary products and services? Don't just ask questions to close the sale - truly seek to understand so you can build solutions to blow them away over the long run through relentless iteration.
It’s THAT level of customer obsession that separates a good business from an iconic, enduring one.
Stay motivated by making progress visible through daily tracking and celebrating small wins. And of course, don't hesitate to reach out if you need an extra push or have a specific project you want brainstorming support on 💪.
Let's crush this week 💯
